Chennai and Mumbai To Go Under Water

At last, a scary picture has been revealed by the Ministry of Earth Science. It has shot a salvo that global warming and climate change will cause sharp rise in sea level that may swallow up Chennai and Mumbai cities. These two cities are heavily populated with Chennai a hub of automobile industry and Mumbai has huge investments in infrastructure.

United Nations Environment Programme has identified India has among 27 countries most vulnerable to a sea-level rise, the ministry also has a scary picture drawn out for those people living in Orissa and West Bengal who have their lands adjacent to sea.

It is expected that large population could shift from the coastal areas to other parts of the land. Cities like Bangalore, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Pune and Hyderabad are the nearest places for the people to shift.

The ministry has projected that some major cities will face water scarcity and other cities may face floods.

Accelerated melting of the Himalayan Glaciers due to the earth's warming will result in loss of water in major rivers like Ganges, Indus and Brahmaputra. Excessive flood will result in water getting into the sea before it is fully utilized.

"Gangotri glacier, one of the largest in the Himalayas has been retreating since long and more rapidly in recent decades. Smaller glaciers could soon dry up because of impact of Global Warming.

AGRICULTURE AND INDIA

One of the major concerns now is the decline in agricultural produce. Due to severe droughts and floods, agriculture could be drastically affected. Another problem that as to be encountered is the health of the people. Malaria, which is resistant to drugs, could take heavy toll of population and there are other vector borne diseases.

The price of food stocks could raise to an all time high and people may not be able to afford to buy.

It is not known if the present government has any plans to safeguard the poor and middle-income people.

It is most likely felt that Global Warming will really take its head and roll the heads of people in India and all over the world.

It is imperative that people should take some steps themselves and not wait for the government to do something for us. Since government is known for not doing anything great on welfare front.
